BIO
My
name is Jerisa Macalino, an artist based out of San Francisco,
California. I graduated UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Fine Arts and
Education. I specialize in paint and illustration, as well as
graphic design. My style is urban sleek; my roots come fom graffiti and
has grown into refined illustrations of urban art while my obsession
for organization influence my taste for clean lines and modern
sleekness. My artistic influences come from graffiti/ street art, comic books, manga, fashion, and 19th century art. Over the years I've provided art work for an array of projects which include t-shirts, album covers, event fliers and promotional print, business collateral, logos, murals, web graphics, comic strips and customized items to name a few. My first solo exhibition was in 2005 entitled "Beautiful/Struggle" where I unveiled my first installation based on the stories of everyday people living in the inner city of San Francisco. It carried personal meaning for me since I was one of those people living their everyday struggle to survive and still finding the beauty in the decay of my environment and the difficulty of my circumstance. The same struggle that exists within that city, exists across the world as I've experienced living in Guam and the provinces of the Philippines. Some shows later, I curated my first group exhibition entitled "Creative Instinct" in 2008. Taking place at the Space Gallery in SF, I put together a show to display the works of independent artists who have yet to find a vehicle for exposure. The theme "Creative Instinct" allowed them to display and create what ever it is that they wanted in order to fully express their personal style and taste without the barriers of a set theme (which is usually the case in other group exhibitions). The show was a complete success, drawing guests of up to 200 throughout the night. Some of the artists received their very first bid, while others actually made their first sale. I currently continue to both paint and design as much as possible. To stay up to date on current projects, you can check out my Blog.
